Brandon Phinney (born April 27, 1988) is an American politician from Rochester, New Hampshire. He served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives for Strafford County’s 24th district from December 7, 2016, to December 5, 2018. Elected as a Republican in 2016, he won by 116 votes and became known as the only openly atheist Republican in the country. On June 27, 2017, he announced he had switched to the Libertarian Party. He lost reelection in 2018, finishing third with 10% of the vote. Afterward, he planned a run for Rochester City Council in 2019. He was elected to the State House again in 2022. Phinney holds an associate degree from Great Bay Community College and a bachelor’s degree from Southern New Hampshire University, and works as a soldier. He has served on the State-Federal Relations and Veterans Affairs committees.
