Brampton Islands National Park

Brampton Islands National Park is in Queensland’s Mackay Region, about 834 kilometres northwest of Brisbane. It includes most of Brampton Island and all of Carlisle Island, covering around 10 square kilometres. The park was established in 1968 and is managed by the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service. The nearest city is Mackay.

The park features rainforests, sandy beaches and coral reefs. It has walking tracks: a summit path to Brampton Peak (214 metres high) and an 8.7-kilometre circuit around the island that passes through open forests, vine thickets, dry rainforest, grasslands and mangroves. You can camp on Carlisle Island, which has some facilities. Be careful in the water from October to May, when marine stingers are common. The park is home to wildlife such as koalas, coastal sheath-tailed bats and black flying-foxes.
