New Hall, Fazakerley
New Hall, also known as Clock Tower Park, is in Fazakerley, Liverpool, on the north side of Longmoor Lane. Built between 1887 and 1889, it was designed by Charles H. Lancaster for the West Derby Poor Law Union to house children from the West Derby Workhouse. The complex, which once included a farm, is now Grade II listed. It served as a children’s home until 1964. By the end of the 20th century it was restored from dereliction and converted into offices, a marine training academy, and a school.
The site runs along a wide avenue of two-storey brick cottages. At the entrance are the superintendent’s house and a ward. In the center is a square with a hall, and nearby buildings including a swimming bath. The cottages are identical, with a gabled front and an H-shaped layout. The hall is a large red-brick building with sandstone decorations, tall arched windows, and a balustraded parapet. The Longmoor Lane front has a portico with a pediment on Corinthian columns and a clock tower above.
