Special Olympics Pakistan is the Pakistan branch of Special Olympics International, a nonprofit that helps people with intellectual disabilities through sport. Special Olympics, started in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, runs year‑round training and competitions for about 2.5 million people in 180 countries. Pakistan began its program in 1989 with roughly 20 athletes. Today it has more than 28,500 registered athletes, over 750 coaches, and more than 3,000 volunteers, and it organized over 320 competitions by 2018. The program offers sports training and Olympic‑style events in 11 summer sports and 3 winter sports. The organization is based in Karachi and is part of the Asia Pacific region; the Board Chair is Ms. Ronak Lakhani. The official website is specialolympics.pk. The Annual Fundraising Gala is a major income source, along with donations and sponsorships. The motto is: "Let me win - but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt."
