Botsfengselet is a former national prison for long-term prisoners in Oslo, Norway. It stood at Grønlandsleiret 41 on land once known as Åkebergløkka. The building was designed by Heinrich Ernst Schirmer and built starting in 1844; it opened in 1851. The chapel, designed by Jacob Wilhelm Nordan, opened in 1887. In 1970, Ullersmo Prison became Norway’s long-term prison, and Botsfengselet was turned into a unit of Oslo District Prison from 1975. The site is protected as a historic place.
