Bonderøven, which can be roughly translated as "The Hill-billy," is a Danish TV show on DR1. It started on DR2 but moved to DR1 in 2011 because it became very popular. The show is filmed at Kastaniegården in Djursland, where Frank Erichsen chases his dream of living self-sufficiently with his wife Theresa and their children Alma and Johan. He does things the old way, fixes tools himself, and uses machines powered by a horse.

There have been 22 seasons so far, usually two per year. Seasons typically begin in January, February, or March, and again in August, September, or October. Later seasons usually have 10 episodes, one per week. When Frank bought the farm, it was a run-down place called Kejsergården. They renamed it Kastaniegården because of a big chestnut tree in the yard. The farm has several buildings, a new farmhouse, a workshop, stables, and a greenhouse. The family has kept many animals, with some changes over time.

Bonderøven first aired on 23 March 2008. Each episode lasts about 30 minutes. The number of episodes per season varies. The first season was released on DVD on 30 June 2009. Episodes are filmed about five days each year. Each episode includes crafts, growing things, and the animals on the farm.

Awards and nominations: In 2010 the show won Best Public Service Format at the Eurovision Forum in Switzerland. In 2011 it was nominated for TV-program of the year at the Billed Bladet TV-GULD awards, but Borgen won. In 2012 it was again nominated for the same prize, and Frank Erichsen was nominated for male TV host of the year; Vild med Dans won the prize and Mikkel Beha Erichsen won the host award. In 2014 the program won TV-program of the year (as chosen by readers). In 2015 it was nominated but lost to Badehotellet. The theme song is "Lørdag Formiddag" by Magtens Korridorer, and other music used in the episodes includes Gamma Ray.
