Blackline Safety
Blackline Safety Corp is a Canadian public company that designs and makes safety-monitoring technology for workers. It trades on the TSX Venture Exchange under the symbol BLN and operates worldwide. The company is led by CEO Cody Slater.
Founded in 2004 as Blackline GPS by Patrick Rousseau and Brendon Cook, it began with car-tracking GPS devices like GPS Snitch (launched in 2008) and another product called Blip. The business started in the consumer GPS market, but income from that area was limited. With outside funding, it grew in the consumer market, and around 2010 the company shifted its focus to industrial GPS and safety solutions. In 2014, Blackline won a CAD 240,000 contract under the Build in Canada Innovation Program to equip Ontario parole officers with Loner 900/Loner Bridge System monitors. The company changed its name to Blackline Safety Corp in July 2015.
Products include personal gas detectors, area gas detectors, wearable safety devices, lone worker safety devices, gamma radiation detectors, and 24/7 live monitoring. The business model centers on ongoing monitoring services with monthly or annual fees, creating recurring revenue.
