Birgit Tengroth (13 July 1915 – 21 September 1983) was a Swedish film actress who appeared in more than 40 films between 1926 and 1950. She was born in Stockholm, the sixth of eight children; her father was a chief customs inspector. She grew up poor and often lacked clothes and shoes. She studied ballet but did not enter the Royal Dramatic School, so she learned acting mainly through private lessons in the 1930s. Tengroth made her film debut in Mordbrännerskan (1926) and signed with Svensk Filmindustri (SF) in 1932, staying there through the 1930s. She became known for fresh, girl-next-door roles. In the 1940s she left SF and worked for different studios. She left acting in 1950 and became an author and journalist, sometimes criticizing the Swedish film industry of her era. She was married to Stig Ahlgren from 1944 to 1950, then to Danish politician Jens Otto Krag from 1950 to 1952, and later returned to Ahlgren. Tengroth died in Stockholm in 1983 and is buried next to Ahlgren in Galärvarv cemetery.
