Billy Liar (song)
Billy Liar is the debut single by The Decemberists, from their 2004 album Her Majesty the Decemberists. Released September 14, 2004, it runs 4:51. Written by Colin Meloy and released on Kill Rock Stars, the song’s title nods to the English novel and British film Billy Liar and also references “No Good Boyo” from Dylan Thomas’s Under Milk Wood. The lyrics describe a young man’s boredom during long summer days, and the music is upbeat, piano-driven, and poppy. The single peaked at No. 24 on the US Billboard charts in October 2004.
