Bettiah Assembly Constituency: A Short Overview

Bettiah Assembly constituency is a state legislative seat in Bihar, India. It is located in West Champaran district and is numbered 8 among Bihar’s 243 assembly segments. The seat is part of the Paschim Champaran Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituency. There is no reservation for Bettiah.

Constituency Details
As per the delimitation order of 2008, Bettiah includes Bettiah town and the Bettiah community development block, along with several gram panchays from Majhaulia block (such as Mohaddipur, Majhaulia, Parsa, Bahuarawa, Gudara, Jaukatia, Bakharia, Rulahi, Rajabhar, Karamawa, Lal Saraiya, Ramnagar Bankat, Amawa Majhar, Majharia Sheikh, Ahawar Kuria, Madhopur, Senuwaria and Bishambharpur). The constituency is part of the Paschim Champaran Lok Sabha seat (it was formerly part of the Bettiah Lok Sabha seat).

Representatives through the Years
The Bettiah seat has seen representation from major national parties, including the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). A notable repeated winner is Renu Devi of the BJP, who has held the seat in multiple terms. Madan Mohan Tiwari of the INC won Bettiah in 2015.

- 2025 Bihar Legislative Assembly election: Renu Devi (BJP) won with 91,907 votes (46.78%). Wasi Ahmad (INC) was runner-up with 69,534 votes (35.39%). Turnout was 196,464 voters (67.26%).
- 2020 Bihar Legislative Assembly election: Renu Devi (BJP) won with 84,496 votes (52.83%). Madan Mohan Tiwari (INC) received 66,417 votes (41.53%). Turnout was 159,932 voters (56.26%).
- 2015 Bihar Legislative Assembly election: Madan Mohan Tiwari (INC) won with 66,786 votes (45.26%). Renu Devi (BJP) was close with 64,466 votes (43.69%).
- 2010 Bihar Legislative Assembly election: Renu Devi (BJP) won with 42,010 votes (39.57%). Madan Mohan Tiwari (INC) had 12,499 votes (11.77%).

Other notes
- Bettiah was one of the seats in Bihar to use electronic voting machines with Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) in the 2015 elections.
- The constituency is a part of the broader Tirhut region and shares its administrative and political context with nearby districts and towns in East India.

As of the latest available information, Renu Devi of the BJP is the incumbent MLA for Bettiah, representing the party within the National Democratic Alliance.
