Berrister Gap
Berrister Gap is an ice-covered saddle on western Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. It is 3.7 km long and about 191 meters above sea level, connecting Casanovas Peak to the northeast with Rotch Dome to the southwest. The gap lies on the divide between Verila Glacier to the southeast and Etar Snowfield to the northwest. Early 19th-century sealers knew the area, and a British field party visited in the summer of 1957/58. The name comes from Andrew Berrister, a fictional scientist in Simon Beaufort’s novel The Killing Ship, who crossed the gap while running for help from Hannah Point to Barclay Bay. Berrister Gap is centered at 62°36′20″S 60°46′40″W, with Bulgarian mapping in 2009 and 2017.
