Get Shorty is an American comedy-drama TV series based on Elmore Leonard’s 1990 novel. It’s the third TV installment in the Get Shorty franchise and was created by Davey Holmes. The show premiered on Epix on August 13, 2017 and stars Chris O’Dowd, Ray Romano, Sean Bridgers, Carolyn Dodd, Lidia Porto, Goya Robles, Megan Stevenson, Lucy Walters, and Sarah Stiles. It has three seasons and 27 episodes; the final season began on October 6, 2019. MGM+ has not officially canceled the series.

What it’s about: The series uses the novel’s basic idea of a gangster who tries to become a movie producer with a director in debt to organized crime, wrapped in dark comedy. It is not a direct adaptation and does not reuse the book’s plot or characters, and is often described as an homage rather than a straight remake (the 1995 film was another adaptation of the same book).

Premise: Miles Daly works as muscle for a Nevada crime ring. To protect his daughter, he tries to switch careers and launder money through Hollywood as a film producer, partnering with Rick Moreweather, a washed-up producer who guides him through the film business while the crime world tags along.

Season and production notes:
- Season 1: 10 episodes
- Season 2: 10 episodes
- Season 3: 7 episodes
- Filming locations included Albuquerque and Los Angeles for season 1, Los Angeles for season 2, and Vancouver plus Los Angeles for season 3
- Trailers released for seasons 1 and 2; festival screenings at ATX in 2018 and PaleyFest Fall TV Previews

Reception: The first season received generally positive reviews, with about 78% on Rotten Tomatoes and a Metacritic score of 71/100.
