August: Osage County is a 2013 American tragicomedy-drama film directed by John Wells and written by Tracy Letts, based on his Pulitzer Prize–winning play of the same name. The ensemble cast includes Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, Chris Cooper, Abigail Breslin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Juliette Lewis, Margo Martindale, Dermot Mulroney, Julianne Nicholson, and Misty Upham. Set in a hot August in rural Oklahoma, the story follows the Weston family as they reunite after their patriarch Beverly Weston disappears and dies. The gathering spirals from dark humor to real heartbreak as relationships are exposed and tested.

The film was produced by George Clooney, Grant Heslov, Jean Doumanian, and Steve Traxler. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9, 2013, and opened in U.S. theaters on December 27, 2013, with a wider release in January 2014. The 120-minute movie was shot in Oklahoma and Los Angeles.

The film grossed about $74 million worldwide on a $37 million budget. On Rotten Tomatoes it has about 67% positive reviews, and on Metacritic it scores 58 out of 100, indicating mixed or average reviews. The musical score was composed by Gustavo Santaolalla.
