Bellthorpe, Queensland
Bellthorpe is a rural locality in the City of Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia. It covers about 74 square kilometres and had a population of 108 people at the 2021 census. Much of the area is inside Bellthorpe National Park. The southern part drains into the Stanley River catchment, while in the north Kilcoy Creek flows into the Mary River. Bellthorpe West is a small neighbourhood in the northwest of the locality.
The name Bellthorpe may come from Joshua Thomas Bell, a Queensland government official when the district was opened for settlement.
Bellthorpe has a history of small schools. Bellthorpe Provisional School opened in 1919, closed in 1922, reopened in 1923, became Bellthorpe State School in 1927, and closed in 1969. Bellthorpe West Provisional School opened in 1955, became Bellthorpe West State School in 1959, and also closed in 1969.
Population has ranged from 124 in 2016 to 108 in 2021.
Education: There are no schools in Bellthorpe. The nearest government primary schools are Woodford State School in Woodford and Peachester State School in Peachester. The nearest government secondary schools are Woodford State School (to Year 10), Maleny State High School (to Year 12) in Maleny, Beerwah State High School in Beerwah, and Kilcoy State High School in Kilcoy.
