Belgarath the Sorcerer is a fantasy novel by American authors David Eddings and Leigh Eddings. It takes place in the same world as The Belgariad and The Malloreon and serves as a prequel to those stories, though the framing tale happens after The Malloreon.

The book is presented as Belgarath’s autobiography. After The Malloreon, Belgarion, with help from Durnik, asks Belgarath to write about the events that happened before The Belgariad. The main part of the story is Belgarath’s memoirs, beginning with his exile from his village, then his becoming Aldur’s first disciple, and continuing for about seven thousand years until the birth of Belgarion.

Polgara the Sorceress is a companion book that collects the memoirs of Belgarath’s elder daughter, Polgara.
