Don't Shut Me Down is a 3:56 pop-disco song by ABBA from their 2021 album Voyage. It was released on September 2, 2021 as a double A-side single with I Still Have Faith in You. The track features Agnetha Fältskog on lead vocals and was written and produced by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. Recording stretched from 2017 to 2021, and the song was issued by Polar.
The release marked ABBA’s return with new music after 40 years. It topped the Swedish singles chart, the first ABBA song to do so since 1978’s Summer Night City. It was nominated for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards.
A lyric video for Don't Shut Me Down went online on YouTube, directed by Mike Anderson of Able. It drew about 1.4 million views in its first 24 hours and trended in 12 countries, including the UK.
Commercially, the song reached the top ten in eleven countries and hit number one in Sweden and Switzerland, as well as appearing on the Euro Digital Songs chart. Critics praised it: Kate Mossman of the New Statesman praised its Evita-like opening before it shifts into gleaming 1980s disco, and Jon Pareles of The New York Times called it a bold, tuneful march. Billboard listed it among the 100 best songs of 2021.
