John Higham (Australian politician)
John Joseph Higham (September 1856 – 23 July 1927) was an Australian politician in Western Australia. He served as the Member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly for Fremantle from 1896 to 1904, and before that he was a Fremantle Municipal Councillor for West Ward from 1890 to 1896.
Higham was born in Fremantle to John Henry Higham and Mary Higham, who had recently arrived in the Swan River Colony. He joined the family business, M. Higham and Sons, and in 1881 took over from his mother. By 1886 he owned the National Hotel building.
In 1882 he married Edith Elizabeth Bateman. They had five sons and one daughter. Two of their sons were John Henry Higham (died 1894) and Arthur Edward Higham (died 1921). By 1921 the family had moved to Altona, at 57 Fothergill Street, Fremantle.
John Higham is buried at Fremantle Cemetery. He had a brother named Edward Higham.
