Band Geeks is the second part of the 15th episode of SpongeBob SquarePants’ second season. It first aired on September 7, 2001. In the story, Squidward learns his rival Squilliam Fancyson is leading a fancy big band that will perform at the Bubble Bowl. Because Squilliam can’t attend, he pressures Squidward to form his own band to compete. Squidward gathers Bikini Bottom residents to form a marching band, but their first week of practice goes poorly and they argue. SpongeBob helps convince everyone to keep trying, and they prepare for the big show.

The episode was directed by Aaron Springer, with writing by C. H. Greenblatt, Aaron Springer, and Merriwether Williams, and animation directed by Frank Weiss. The final performance uses the song “Sweet Victory” by David Glen Eisley, which became a standout moment. The live crowd at the Bubble Bowl combines footage from a 1984 football game and new shots made for the show.

Band Geeks was a hit with fans and critics and is often ranked among the best SpongeBob episodes. It won the 2002 Golden Reel Award for Best Sound Editing in Television – Animation. The Bubble Bowl performance of “Sweet Victory” helped the song gain lasting fame, and the episode remains a beloved favorite for its humor, teamwork, and triumphant ending.
