Asian Cup Winners' Cup
Asian Cup Winners' Cup was an annual Asian football competition for the winners of domestic cups, run by the AFC. It ran from 1990-91 to 2001-02 (12 seasons) and was the second major inter-Asian club competition. The winners used to play the winners of the Asian Club Championship in the Asian Super Cup. The first edition had 17 clubs, and Persepolis of Iran won the title by beating Al-Muharraq of Bahrain in the final. The most successful clubs were Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia and Yokohama F. Marinos of Japan, each with two titles. The last champions were Al-Hilal, who defeated Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in 2001-02. In 2002 it was discontinued to form the AFC Champions League. A notable change was the 1999 merger of Yokohama Flügels with Yokohama Marinos to form Yokohama F. Marinos.
