Asia Pacific Region (World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts)
WAGGGS Asia Pacific Region is the division of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts that covers Guiding in 26 countries across Asia south of Russia and much of the Pacific. It was founded in 1969 and has about 2.5 million members. The regional headquarters are in Makati, Philippines, with offices in Australia and Japan. The region supports Guiding growth and programs for girls and young women in its countries. Since the end of communism, Guiding has expanded in Central Asia and former Soviet states, with Guiding returning to Afghanistan and growing in Mongolia. The twelve founding member organizations in 1969 were Australia, New Zealand, India, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Singapore, the Philippines, and Pakistan. When a country joins the Asia Pacific Region, the joining year reflects membership in the region, not the start of Guiding in that country.
