Arhopala wildei

Arhopala wildei, also known as the small oakblue or white oakblue, is a butterfly in the Lycaenidae family. It lives in western New Guinea (Irian Jaya) and in northern Queensland, Australia, from Cape York to Innisfail. The wingspan is about 30 mm. It is similar to Arhopala disparilis, but the female’s hindwing on the upper side has a broader edge, and the white underside is covered with many small spots. Some similar forms or species may occur in the Aru Islands. These butterflies tend to fly high, making them hard to catch and rare in collections. The caterpillars feed on ant eggs and probably on ant larvae, and they live in the arboreal nests of the ant Polyrhachis queenslandica.
