Arena das Dunas
Arena das Dunas, or the Dunes Arena, is a football stadium in Natal, Brazil. It seats about 31,375 spectators and the field is 105 by 68 meters. The stadium was designed by Christopher Lee of Populous and opened on January 26, 2014 after being built from 2011 to 2013 at a cost of around R$400 million (about €110 million).
It hosted matches during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, and for the tournament its capacity was expanded to about 42,000 seats. The arena was built on the site of the old Machadão stadium, which was demolished in 2011. Earlier plans had proposed Estádio Estrela dos Reis Magos in nearby Parnamirim, but the project moved to the current site and included plans for a shopping center, hotels and an artificial lake around the stadium.
The stadium sits on Senador Salgado Filho Avenue (BR-101), near the Fourth Centennial Complex road. It is owned and operated by OAS Arenas and has 39 executive suites. The home team is América-RN.
