Colegio Nautilus
Colegio Nautilus (Nautilus School) is a private bilingual school in Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico. Founded in 1986, it serves Preschool, Elementary and Middle School. The school offers Cambridge ESOL English exams and uses the High/Scope approach in preschool. It runs the marine education program M.A.R.E from the Lawrence Hall of Science at UC Berkeley and was a pioneer in giving students digital media training from Apple, providing an iPad to each student. Motto: The perfection of nature is our best lesson.
History and technology: As Acapulco grew in the 1980s, Nautilus opened in 1987 with strong local support. By the early 1990s it offered Cambridge English certification, environmental education, and was the first in Acapulco with a computerized multimedia hall. In 1995 it bought its facilities from Lions Clubs International to become a full school campus. The school has since led in technology, becoming a member of the International Society for Technology in Education and forming partnerships with Apple and Microsoft. Classrooms often include iPad labs and a Digital Cinema system for on-demand videos.
Today: Nautilus emphasizes technology in learning, with online resources and modern classrooms. Middle School students can earn certificates such as Microsoft Office Specialist and Apple iLife/iWork. The school also maintains a strong focus on environmental education, running programs like Ocean Week, Earth Day, Meatless Mondays, ecology classes, recycling contests, beach cleanups, and promoting vegetarianism and off-campus recycling.
