Senegal at the 2019 African Games
Senegal took part in the 2019 African Games, held in Rabat, Morocco from August 19 to August 31. The team had 127 athletes (78 men and 49 women) across 16 sports. Senegal finished 22nd in the medal table with 1 gold, 5 silver and 16 bronze medals (total 22).
Medal highlights and results by sport
- Athletics: Louis François Mendy won bronze in the men’s 110 metres hurdles (the country’s only athletics medal). Henry Bandiaky competed in the men’s 100m and 200m but did not reach the semifinals.
- Boxing: Four Senegalese boxers participated: Marietou Diallo, Mamadou Fall, Mbagnick Ndiaye and Khadija Timera.
- Canoeing: Oulimata Ba Fall and Combe Seck were among the canoeists; the team earned three silver medals and one bronze.
- Equestrian: Batj Gaye, Salif Keita, Babacar Ngom and Mohamed Seck represented Senegal.
- Fencing: Senegal won four bronze medals.
- Football (U-20 men): The Senegal national under-20 team won bronze in the men’s tournament.
- Taekwondo: Competitors included Mamadou Diop (9th), Hamadel Nestor Ndiaye (15th), Anta Ndiaye (10th) and Sall Adji Mame Awa (15th).
- Taekwondo, Karate, Karate: Fallou Beye won bronze (-60 kg); Abdou Cisse bronze (-84 kg); the women’s team won bronze in karate.
- Karate: In addition to the individual bronze medals, the women’s team finished with bronze.
- Karate: The women’s team earned a bronze medal.
- Judo: Mbagnick Ndiaye won gold in the men’s +100 kg; Monica Sagna won bronze in the women’s +78 kg.
- Wrestling: The team won one silver and one bronze medal, finishing 7th in wrestling.
- Swimming: Six swimmers represented Senegal.
- Table tennis: Ibrahima Diao, Mohamed Gueye and Hamidou Sow were listed to compete.
- Shooting (skeet): Clement Fakhoury, Hassane Ramlaoui and Hassan Saleh competed.
Notes: Handball did not take part in these Games. The team also competed in several other events with athletes listed for participation but without medal finishes noted.
