Eckrich is a meat brand owned by Smithfield Foods, part of China's WH Group. The brand sells smoked sausages, cold cuts, hot dogs, corn dogs, Vienna sausages, breakfast sausages and bacon. Eckrich started as a small meat market in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1894, founded by German immigrant Peter Eckrich. It grew into a wholesale business and became Peter Eckrich and Sons in 1925, then stopped retail in 1932 to focus on wholesale. Beatrice Foods bought the company in 1972 and merged it with Swift and Sons in 1986 to form Swift-Eckrich. Eckrich was sold to ConAgra in 1990, and ConAgra sold it to Smithfield Foods on October 2, 2006. Smithfield updated Eckrich packaging for deli meats in 2020 with COHO Creative Agency in Cincinnati, Ohio. Peter Eckrich’s family played a leading role in the business for many years.
