Joué-lès-Tours
Joué-lès-Tours is a town in central France, in the Indre-et-Loire department of the Centre-Val de Loire region. It sits southwest of Tours and is the largest suburb of the city.
The area covers about 133 square kilometers. In 2023, around 38,400 people lived there.
The name comes from the old Latin name Gaudius, meaning “fortunate” or “blessed,” plus a suffix meaning “place of.” The name has appeared in different forms over the centuries.
The town hall (Hôtel de Ville) was completed in 1976.
Notable events: On 20 December 2014, there was a stabbing at the Tours police station located in the area. In February 2010, the mayor added the word laïcité beneath the national motto on the town hall façade.
