Anita Cherry was an American practical nurse who became a coal miner. In 1973, she and Diana Baldwin were hired as miners for the Beth-Elkhorn Coal Company in Jenkins, Kentucky. They are believed to be the first women to work in an underground coal mine in the United States and the first female members of the United Mine Workers of America to work inside a mine.
