Andrew Armacost is the 13th and current president of the University of North Dakota. He is a retired brigadier general in the United States Air Force who previously served as the dean of the faculty at the United States Air Force Academy.

Early life and education
- Born in Glendale, Wisconsin, and grew up in the state.
- Graduated from Nicolet High School in 1985.
- Earned a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering from Northwestern University in 1989 as an ROTC Distinguished Graduate.
- Earned a Master of Science in operations research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1995 as a Draper Fellow.
- Earned a PhD in operations research from MIT in 2000. His doctoral work focused on algorithmic approaches for aircraft and fleet routing, with support from UPS and mentored by Cynthia Barnhart.

Air Force career
- Commissioned as an Air Force officer in 1989.
- Early assignments included work at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts.
- Served as an instructor in the Department of Management at the U.S. Air Force Academy from 1995 to 1997, and later as a professor in the same department from 2000 to 2007.
- Briefly served as chief analyst of Air Force Space Command at Peterson Air Force Base.
- Returned to the Academy as a professor and department head of Management in 2008.
- In 2013, named dean of the faculty at the Air Force Academy.
- Retired from the Air Force on August 1, 2019, after 19 years at the Academy and a total 30-year career in the Air Force.

University of North Dakota presidency
- Named president of the University of North Dakota on December 3, 2019.
- Took office on June 1, 2020, and began remotely from Colorado due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- In August 2021, UND became the first participant in the Space Force’s University Partnership program under Armacost.
- In September 2021, a former UND Police Chief alleged that Armacost fired one administrator who he believed discriminated against him for political beliefs.
