Americans Will Always Fight for Liberty
Americans Will Always Fight for Liberty is a World War II poster from 1943 created by Bernard Perlin. It shows three American soldiers marching in front of Continental Army troops from Valley Forge in 1778, linking the fight for freedom in the Revolutionary War to the battle against the Axis powers.
Made by the U.S. Office of War Information, the poster aimed to boost patriotism and support for the war by presenting American soldiers as freedom fighters. It was displayed in schools, libraries, post offices, factories, and other public places across the United States. The emphasis on the word “always” stressed that the United States would keep fighting the Axis powers, just as it helped Britain in the Revolutionary War. Some researchers see it as transfer propaganda, moving the idea of liberty from the Revolutionary War to World War II. It is one of the most recognizable WWII posters.
