Worthy.com
Worthy.com is an online liquidation marketplace for pre-owned luxury items like diamonds, brand-name watches, and diamond jewelry. Based in New York City, it was founded in 2014 by Ben De-Kalo. The platform provides a safe, professional auction space where buyers and sellers can transact.
Sellers from anywhere in the United States ship their items to Worthy’s New York headquarters for appraisal, grading, and sale. Worthy handles the risk and logistics—shipping, Lloyd’s of London insurance, complimentary grading, professional photography, and an auction with a reserve price. The company emphasizes transparency, integrity, privacy, and convenience.
Buyers are vetted industry professionals and collectors. The process starts with an automated price estimate, followed by setting a reserve price with the seller. Diamonds are graded by GIA, GSI, or IGI; watches are authenticated by Central Watch in NYC.
How it works: The seller describes the item and ships it (insured up to $100,000). At Worthy, the item is screened, cleaned, photographed, and graded. An auction listing is created with the grading reports and photos. The seller sets a reserve and may use Worthy’s price guarantee. Bids come from vetted professionals; the seller accepts a bid and the sale proceeds (minus Worthy’s commission) are paid after the auction ends.
Worthy launched in May 2014 after the founders struggled to sell a diamond necklace. The platform is online, with offline evaluation and storage, and a trusted network of professional buyers. About 85% of Worthy’s auctions close successfully.
