American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology (AOBD)
Abbreviation: AOBD
Formation: 1945
Type: Professional certification board
Headquarters: Chicago, Illinois
Chairman: Michael Scott, DO, FAOCD
Vice Chairman: Joan Tamburro, DO
Website: aobd.org
The AOBD certifies Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) who specialize in skin medicine and surgery. It is one of 18 specialty boards approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and is one of two U.S. dermatology certifiers (the other is the American Board of Dermatology).
As of 2023, 687 osteopathic physicians hold active AOBD certification.
Initial certification requires completing an AOA-approved dermatology residency, at least two years of practice, and passing clinical and written exams. Diplomates must renew certification every 10 years.
The AOBD also oversees exams for subspecialties in Mohs micrographic surgery and dermatopathology. Board-certified osteopathic dermatologists may be eligible for admission to the American Society for Mohs Surgery.
