Ambleside railway station
Ambleside railway station was a small stop on the Adelaide–Wolseley line, about 43.5 kilometres from Adelaide, in the Balhannah area (elevation about 318 metres). It opened in November 1883, just north of Ambleside Road, and was named Ambleside—the WWI-era alternate name for Hahndorf.
The station had a ticket office, a large shelter, and a smaller platform with a shelter. Because it wasn’t in a convenient location for passengers, it closed around 1965–66 when the South Australian Railways reduced services.
After closing, the main platform and most infrastructure were removed sometime after 1966, and the smaller platform plus shelter shed and signs were removed in the 1980s–1990s. In 2011–2013, a crossing loop was built nearby to help manage long-distance trains between Belair and Mount Barker Junction.
