Allegaeon
Allegaeon is an American death metal band from Fort Collins, Colorado. They play a technical, melodic style that blends fast guitar work with orchestral and progressive touches. Their lyrics often explore science topics like evolution, biology, physics, cryonics, space, and artificial intelligence.
Formed in 2008, Allegaeon released a self-titled EP before signing with Metal Blade Records. Their debut full-length album, Fragments of Form and Function, came out in 2010, followed by Formshifter in 2012 and Elements of the Infinite in 2014. The latter album earned strong critical praise for its creativity and musicianship.
Vocalist changes marked the 2010s, with Ezra Haynes leaving in 2015 and Riley McShane joining soon after. The band's fourth album, Proponent for Sentience, released in 2016, is often regarded as a high point and features guest contributions. That year also saw bassist Corey Archuleta leave, amid financial struggles that led the band to launch a Patreon-supported fan club to keep touring and recording.
Allegaeon released a Rush cover, Animate, in early 2018 and then toured Europe with Ne Obliviscaris the same year. Their fifth album, Apoptosis, followed in 2019, and they released a Yes cover, Roundabout, in 2020.
In 2022, they issued Damnum to strong reviews and it was listed among the year’s top metal releases by Loudwire. Riley McShane left the band again in 2022, but Ezra Haynes returned in 2023 for European touring. The group released new singles in 2023 and 2024, including Inhumation in 2023 and Iridescent in 2024, and embarked on the Cancer Culture Over North America Tour in 2024 with Decapitated, Septicflesh, and Kataklysm.
In 2025, Allegaeon released the single Driftwood and announced their seventh album, The Ossuary Lens, which came out in April 2025.
Discography highlights include one EP and seven studio albums: Fragments of Form and Function (2010), Formshifter (2012), Elements of the Infinite (2014), Proponent for Sentience (2016), Apoptosis (2019), Damnum (2022), and The Ossuary Lens (2025). They’ve also released notable covers and collaborative tracks and have built a dedicated following through energetic touring and technical, science-minded metal.
