Alfred Murray
Alfred Wynyatt Murray (4 February 1868 – 27 July 1936) was an Australian cricketer who played for Victoria. He was born in Long Gully, Victoria, and began his cricket career with the Bendigo United Cricket Club before moving to Melbourne to play for East Melbourne in district cricket. Murray was mainly a batsman, but he also bowled googly spin. He played five first-class matches for Victoria between 1897 and 1901. Highlights of his state career include a 187-run partnership with Peter McAlister against New Zealand in 1899 and a century against Tasmania in 1900. Outside of cricket, he worked for the Victorian Railways Department and became chief clerk of the Railways Workshops in Bendigo before retiring in 1928. He had a daughter and three sons and died in Preston, Victoria, at the age of 68.
