Streetlife is a British charity based in Blackpool that helps young homeless people in North West England. It was founded in 1984 and opened a night shelter in 1992 near St John’s Church. Its aim is to provide shelter and support for 16 to 25-year-olds who are homeless. About 400 young people use Streetlife’s services each year. The charity is led by Chief Executive Jane Hugo and has six full‑time and five part‑time staff, plus around 35 volunteers from several countries. Streetlife receives support from the Amy Winehouse Foundation and Children in Need, and won the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2010. In 2014, Blackpool Council announced a funding cut of £100,000. Streetlife runs a nightly shelter in Blackpool and a daytime base on Buchanan Street that offers housing and finances advice and help finding work. In 2013 it started the £5 What can it buy? campaign to show what £5 a month can do for homeless young people. In 2014 it teamed up with Amurco to run StreetSound, eight weeks of songwriting workshops for Streetlife users; the resulting song was released to raise funds through JustGiving.
