Alas Pati: Hutan Mati
Alas Pati: Hutan Mati (Starch Base: Dead Forest) is a 2018 Indonesian horror film directed by Jose Poernomo. It stars Nikita Willy, Jeff Smith, Stefi Zamora, Roy Sungkono, Naomi Paulinda, and Maura Inry Gabrielle. The movie runs 82 minutes.
Plot in simple terms:
Five fourth-year economics students—Raya, Dito, Rendy, Vega, and Jessy—go to a forest called Alas Pati, a place with a scary legend about restless spirits. They find bodies arranged on bamboo and Raya takes a necklace from one of them. During a selfie session, Jessy falls through a bamboo platform and dies. The friends hide what happened, and Jessy’s ghost keeps haunting them because her body was left out there. The dean warns that if Jessy isn’t found in three days, police will be involved. The group fights with guilt and blame, and Vega is so traumatized she tries to jump from a building. Raya decides to return with Dito and Rendy to give Jessy a proper burial and plans to surrender to the authorities. They go home relieved, but Dito and Rendy are killed by spirits. Raya realizes disturbing the forest harmed its real inhabitants, and a black guardian of Alas Pati kills her.
Production and reception:
The film is known for its entertaining approach to horror. It has aired on Philippine TV and has been available on Netflix since 2021. Reviews note a strong opening and ending, with the middle acting some clichés, but it’s well filmed and the scenery is striking.
