Al Hajjarah
Al Hajjarah is a small Yemeni village in the Haraz Mountains, within the Manakhah District of Sana’a Governorate. It sits about 1,858 meters (6,096 feet) above sea level and has around 2,500 residents. The town lies on the road from Sana’a to Hudayda and today serves as a base camp for trekkers. It is perched on a cliff and is famous for its tall houses built into the rock faces. The citadel was founded in the 12th century by the Sulaihids and became an important fort during Ottoman rule because of its strategic position. Al Hajjarah is also known for pepper production. The village contains the former residence of Imam Yahya Muhammad, who signed the Italo-Yemeni Treaty in 1926.
