Aiguo Dai
Aiguo Dai (Chinese: 戴爱国) is a Chinese-American atmospheric scientist and professor in the Department of Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences at the University at Albany, SUNY.
Education and early work
He studied at Nanjing University, the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Columbia University. His PhD thesis, completed in 1996, was titled Global precipitation variability and its relationship with other climate changes.
Career
Dai joined the University at Albany in 2012 as an associate professor after working at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, where he began as a project scientist in 1999.
Research and impact
He is an ISI highly cited researcher whose work focuses on climate variability and future climate change, including the global water cycle and droughts. Notable findings include:
- A 2010 study projecting that many heavily populated areas, such as southern Europe and northern Africa, could experience severe drought before 2100.
- Research showing that the difference between the global warming hiatus and model predictions is largely due to the Interdecadal Pacific Oscillation.
- Studies indicating that drought has worsened worldwide since 1923 under global warming.
