Adam Shoenfeld
Adam Shoenfeld (born April 29, 1974) is a Nashville-based guitarist, songwriter and producer who works mainly in country music. He has played on more than 500 albums and is best known for his work with Big & Rich and Jason Aldean.
Early life and career start
Shoenfeld was born in Huntington, New York, and grew up in Blairstown, New Jersey. He moved to Nashville after high school and worked as a house musician at Woodland Studios, where he met John Rich and Big Kenny Alphin. After touring with Big Kenny, they formed the rock band luvjOi, and Shoenfeld joined the MuzikMafia, a music-and-art collective.
Big & Rich and beyond
Rich began using Shoenfeld as a guitarist in the studio, playing on demos like "Redneck Woman" and "Hicktown." After luvjOi disbanded, Alphin and Rich formed Big & Rich and signed with Warner Bros. Records in 2004. Shoenfeld contributed to the debut album Horse of a Different Color and played on the hit "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)." He has played on every Big & Rich album and co-wrote songs such as "Real World," "High Five," "When the Devil Gets the Best of Me," and "M-E-D-L-E-Y of the Hillbilly Jedi."
touring, session work and Jason Aldean
He toured with Big & Rich (2005–2007, 2009) and joined Jason Aldean’s band for label showcases. He played lead guitar on Aldean’s debut album, including the Top 10 hit "Hicktown," and has continued to play on Aldean releases. He also co-wrote "Laid Back" on Aldean’s Old Boots, New Dirt. Beyond these projects, Shoenfeld has sessioned with many artists, including Luke Bryan, Keith Urban, Blake Shelton, Florida Georgia Line, Jake Owen, Thomas Rhett, Alabama, Tim McGraw, Lee Brice and more.
Tim McGraw and production work
In 2012 he joined Tim McGraw’s touring band and continues to tour with him while recording. As a producer, he has worked on Kelsey Harmon’s One Big Favor, Sarah Darling’s Angels & Devils, John Rich’s Rich Rocks, the Amnesty International project Instant Karma, and luvjOi’s Volume 2.
Awards
In 2005, he earned SESAC Song of the Year for "Mississippi Girl" (co-written with John Rich). He has been nominated for the ACM Guitarist of the Year Award in 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019.
