Adam Hughes (volleyball)
Adam Hughes (born May 8, 1986) is an American volleyball coach. He is the head coach of the Maryland Terrapins women's volleyball team in the Big Ten. His Maryland head coaching record is 110–131 (.456).
Born in State College, Pennsylvania, Hughes earned a degree in economics from Penn State in 2006. He is married to Alice Kahrs Hughes, and they have three daughters: Harper, Hayden, and Henley.
Hughes began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant and manager for Penn State women’s volleyball from 2003 to 2008 after Penn State coach Russ Rose encouraged him to be a practice player. He then served as a volunteer assistant for UC Irvine in 2008–09. He returned to Penn State in 2010 as the Director of Volleyball Operations. While at Penn State, the program won NCAA championships in 2013 and 2014 and eight Big Ten titles.
In 2014 Hughes joined Maryland as an assistant coach. He was named Maryland’s head coach on January 23, 2018. He received the AVCA Thirty Under 30 award in 2015.
