A55 autoroute

The A55 autoroute is a toll-free motorway in southern France. It is about 37 km long, running from La Joliette in Marseille to the west of Martigues, where it becomes the N568 toward Arles and Nîmes. The first section opened in 1972, and the last piece linking to the Vieux-Port of Marseille was completed in 1989. In the future, the motorway is planned to extend toward Arles by upgrading the N568 across the Plaine de la Crau, but no date is set. A bypass for Port-de-Bouc is also being evaluated.
