Eddie Dawkins
Eddie Dawkins, full name Edward James Dawkins, is a New Zealand track cyclist born on 11 July 1988 in Invercargill. He competes in sprint events on the track, including team sprint, sprint, keirin and the 1-kilometre time trial. He is 1.85 m tall and weighs 93 kg.
Career highlights:
- 2010 Commonwealth Games (Delhi): silver in the men’s sprint; bronze in the 1 km time trial.
- 2014 Commonwealth Games (Glasgow): bronze in the men’s sprint; gold in the team sprint with Ethan Mitchell and Sam Webster; the New Zealand team set two Commonwealth Games records.
- 2016 Rio Olympics: silver in the team sprint with Mitchell and Webster; competed in the individual sprint but did not medal beyond the first round repechage.
- 2018 Commonwealth Games (Gold Coast): gold in the team sprint with Mitchell and Webster.
- He also competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Retirement and later career:
- Dawkins retired from professional cycling in 2020 and switched to powerlifting.
- In 2022 he was selected to represent New Zealand at the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships in Auckland.
