557 BC
557 BC was a year in the ancient Roman calendar before the Julian reform. In Rome it was known as year 197 Ab urbe condita, meaning “from the founding of the City” (Rome). The label 557 BC began to be used in medieval Europe after the Anno Domini dating system became common. Not much is recorded about events from that year.
