Petra Lammert
Petra Lammert (born 3 March 1984) is a German former shot putter who later became a bobsledder. She was the 2009 European Indoor champion in the shot put and won bronze at the 2006 European Athletics Championships. Her personal best in shot put is 20.04 metres, set in May 2007 in Zeven.
Lammert earned her first international medal with bronze at the 2003 European Athletics Junior Championships. She finished fifth at the 2005 European Indoor Championships, won the shot put title at the 2005 European Athletics U23 Championships, and competed at the 2005 World Championships. In 2006 she was the German national champion indoors and outdoors, won the European Cup, finished fourth at the 2006 IAAF World Indoor Championships, and took bronze at the 2006 European Athletics Championships with 19.17 m.
In 2007 she won the European Cup Winter Throwing, achieved her 20.04 m personal best, and finished fifth at the World Championships in Osaka. She ended the season fourth at the IAAF World Athletics Final. After missing most major events in 2008, she won the 2009 European Indoor Championships with 19.66 m. She finished second at the 2010 European Team Championships and sixth at the 2010 European Championships in Barcelona.
In November 2010 she retired from track and field because of a persistent elbow injury. In early 2011 she switched to bobsleigh and quickly became one of Germany’s top brakewomen. She won a silver medal in the two-woman event at the 2012 World Championships, teaming with Sandra Kiriasis, finishing behind Canada. In the 2011–12 Bobsleigh World Cup she also earned podium finishes at Igls, Altenberg, and Calgary.
