The Cavaliers, led by head coach J. B. Bickerstaff, finished 48-34, placing 2nd in the Central Division and 4th in the Eastern Conference. They clinched a playoff spot on April 12 after beating the Indiana Pacers 129-120. In the playoffs, Cleveland defeated the Orlando Magic in seven games in the first round, reaching the conference semifinals for the first time without LeBron James since his drafting. They were then eliminated by the Boston Celtics, the eventual champions, in five games in the second round. The team attracted an average home attendance of 19,345 over 41 home games. In the draft, they selected Emoni Bates in the second round. The Cavaliers also participated in the 2023 NBA In-Season Tournament as part of Group A, alongside the Philadelphia 76ers, Atlanta Hawks, Indiana Pacers, and Detroit Pistons. During the season, they added Max Strus via a sign-and-trade from Miami.
