Intelligence and National Security Alliance
INSA, the Intelligence and National Security Alliance, is a nonprofit, nonpartisan 501(c)(6) organization based in Arlington, Virginia. It serves public, private, and academic members of the U.S. intelligence community.
Founded in 1979 as the Security Affairs Support Association (SASA) by Len Moodispaw and John E. Morrison, INSA aimed to connect professionals and keep them informed about intelligence and national security issues, with early work centered on the National Security Agency. SASA was originally headquartered in Annapolis Junction, Maryland.
INSA partners with the Department of Defense through a SkillBridge memorandum of understanding and has welcomed DoD SkillBridge Fellows since 2022. The organization runs several awards, including the William Oliver Baker Award (established 1984) with an annual Baker Award Dinner, and the INSA Achievement Awards (established 2010) in six categories.
The annual Intelligence and National Security Summit, co-hosted with AFCEA International, brings leaders from public and private sectors together for plenaries and breakout sessions on current intelligence and national security issues. INSA is affiliated with the Intelligence and National Security Foundation, a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit that funds scholarships and programming for the intelligence community.
