2021–22 Appalachian State Mountaineers men's basketball team
The 2021–22 Appalachian State Mountaineers men's basketball team represented Appalachian State University in the 2021–22 NCAA Division I season. Led by third-year head coach Dustin Kerns, they played home games at the Holmes Center in Boone, North Carolina as members of the Sun Belt Conference. They finished the season 19–15 overall and 12–6 in Sun Belt play, finishing second in the conference.
In the Sun Belt tournament, they defeated Georgia Southern in the quarterfinals and lost to Georgia State in the semifinals. The Mountaineers received an invitation to The Basketball Classic (the postseason tournament formerly known as the CollegeInsider.com Tournament) and were eliminated in the first round by USC Upstate.
Context from the previous season: the 2020–21 season was limited by the COVID-19 pandemic. Appalachian State went 17–12 overall and 7–8 in Sun Belt play, finishing fourth in the West. In the Sun Belt tournament, they beat Little Rock, Texas State, and Coastal Carolina to reach the championship, where they defeated Georgia State to win the conference tournament and earn an NCAA tournament bid as a 16 seed in the West. They lost in the First Four to Norfolk State, 53–54.
