2019 Rugby World Cup Pool C
Pool C of the 2019 Rugby World Cup started on 21 September 2019 in Japan. The teams were England and France, hosts in this pool, along with Argentina (the fourth-placed team from 2015) and qualifiers the United States (Americas 1) and Tonga (Oceania 2). This pool was the first to produce a full table before the tournament began.
England and France won their first three games, keeping perfect records, but their match against each other was cancelled because of Typhoon Hagibis. England earned a bonus point in all three games, while France picked up just one bonus point. As a result, England finished top of Pool C and France second, advancing to the knockout rounds. Argentina finished third and earned the last automatic qualification spot for the 2023 Rugby World Cup, while Tonga finished fourth.
Key moments included:
- Argentina briefly trailed 17–0 to France in the opening match, but Camille Lopez won it with a late drop goal for France.
- England beat Tonga in Sapporo with Manu Tuilagi scoring twice, and then defeated the United States with Joe Cokanasiga also scoring twice; the United States’ John Quill was sent off.
- Argentina recovered from their loss to France to beat Tonga, with Julián Montoya scoring a hat-trick in a 28–12 win.
- France beat the United States 33–9 in Fukuoka after a strong finish, while England defeated Argentina 39–10 in Chōfu, with Tomás Lavanini sent off for a high tackle.

- After the England–France match was cancelled, Tonga finished their campaign with a 31–19 win over the United States, powered by converted late tries.
Final standings: England first, France second, Argentina third (and securing the last automatic 2023 World Cup berth), and Tonga fourth.
