2019 Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race
The 2019 Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race was a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race held on August 17, 2019, at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee. The race went for 500 laps on the 0.533-mile short track, covering a total distance of 266.5 miles. It was the 24th race of the 2019 season.
Bristol Motor Speedway is a famous short track known for its steep banking, all-concrete surface, two pit roads, and stadium-like seating. It’s also one of the loudest tracks on the NASCAR circuit, and drivers are allowed to introduce themselves with a song during introductions.
Before the race, Bayley Currey was entered in the No. 52 car but was suspended by NASCAR for a violation of the substance abuse policy. Kyle Weatherman replaced Currey in that car.
In practice, Denny Hamlin was fastest in the first session with a lap of 14.920 seconds at 128.606 mph. In final practice, Matt DiBenedetto topped the speeds with a 14.892-second lap at 128.848 mph. Hamlin then won the pole with a lap of 14.848 seconds (129.230 mph), marking Toyota’s first Cup pole of 2019.
The race was divided into three stages: 125 laps, 125 laps, and 250 laps. Denny Hamlin, driving the No. 11 for Joe Gibbs Racing, won the race. Matt DiBenedetto led the most laps, with 93 laps led.
Television coverage in the United States was provided by NBCSN, with Rick Allen, Jeff Burton, and Steve Letarte in the booth. Pit reporters were Dave Burns, Parker Kligerman, Marty Snider, and Kelli Stavast. Dale Earnhardt Jr. did not participate in the broadcast after a non-fatal plane incident involving his family’s private plane; he and his family were not seriously injured.
Radio coverage was by the Performance Racing Network (PRN), with Doug Rice and Mark Garrow calling the race from the booth and Rob Albright handling the backstretch. PRN’s coverage was also carried on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
