Star Awards 2021
Star Awards 2021 (红星大奖2021) was held in Singapore on 18 April 2021 at Jewel Changi Airport, Terminal 4. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mediacorp combined the 2020 and 2021 ceremonies into one bigger, safer event and there was no live studio audience.
The ceremony took place on the tarmac with a Singapore Airlines aircraft as part of the backdrop. Overseas guests joined via teleconference from Hong Kong or Taiwan, and the show was broadcast with social distancing measures in place. The event was held in multiple parts around Terminal 4, including backstage and the Walk-of-Fame area.
A Quest to Heal led the night with multiple wins, including Best Drama Serial, while Zoe Tay won Best Lead Actress for My Guardian Angels and Kym Ng won Best Supporting Actress for Daybreak. Zhang Ze Tong won Best Newcomer for A Jungle Survivor, which had the most nominations but won few awards. In the Variety category, King of Culinary won Best Variety Show, and Hear U Out was a top winner among variety programs.
The All-Time Favourite Artiste honor went to Dasmond Koh. Dennis Chew and Zheng Geping each earned their tenth Top 10 Most Favourite Artiste award, while Marcus Chin, Hong Ling and Bonnie Loo earned their first Top 10 nods. The Top 10 voting combined online results with a demographic poll, and voting ran during the final stretch of the ceremony.
The ceremony faced discussions about safety measures, airtime and voting procedures, and how results were handled. IMDA stated the event complied with rules, and Mediacorp explained the design of the show’s timing and format.
A pre-show spin-off, The Inner Circle, ran before the ceremony from 17 February 2021, offering behind-the-scenes moments with All-Time Favourite Artiste recipients. The Star Awards 2021 was broadcast on Mediacorp channels 8 and U, with clips available on YouTube via Mediacorp Entertainment Channel.
